Back By Popular Demand! CMCH presents The Philly Soul Sound Vol. 4 – the music known by the iconic acronym TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia). This much-loved funky silken musical genre rose to prominence in the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s, recognized for its soulful string arrangements, brassy horns, and lively rhythms that gave this music its distinctive characteristics.
More refined than raw funk, The Philly Sound spotlights creative arrangements and often features strings, horns, and other instruments not typically found in funk and soul. This signature blend of smooth, danceable rhythms, lavish string, horn accompaniments, and thoughtfully penned lyrics exploring mature themes defines the genre.
This year’s show will include an all-male four-part harmony group and an all-female four-part harmony group. We expect over 2,000 people to attend this celebration of the classic Philly Sound. Iconic Philly Sound hits include:
• Love Train by Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff and The O’Jays
• Me and Mrs. Jones by Kenny Gamble, Cary Gilbert, Leon Huff and Billy Paul
• Hey There Lonely Girl by Leon Carr, Earl Shuman and Eddie Holman
• Nights Over Egypt by Dexter Wansel, The Jones Girls
• You Make Me Feel Brand New by Thom Bell, Linda Creed and The Stylistics
And so much more! Join us for an incredible night of music!
