“The Latin Side of Houston” features music written in honor of Houston’s legendary musicians compositions reimagined in a Latin jazz setting.

Houston Latin Jazz Orchestra will perform music from artists such as The Crusaders, Joe Sample, Ronnie Laws, Norma Zenteno, Conrad Johnson, and Beyoncé. This performance is a definite must-see and will serve as a reminder of the transcending work of Houston’s music legends.

The Houston Latin Jazz Orchestra led by Grammy-Nominated music director José Antonio Diaz, features some of Houston’s best Latin jazz artists. These world-class musicians represent the rich heritage of the Latin American countries and the fusion of these cultures with the Houston lifestyle. The members of the group have won Grammys and toured with artists such as Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Chaka Khan, Paquito D’Rivera, Maynard Ferguson, Billy Taylor, David Sanborn, Nestor Torres, Wynton Marsalis, Arturo O’farrill, Joe Sample, The Jazz Crusaders, Idina Menzel, Ricardo Montaner, La India, Luis Enrique, to name just a few.

The Diaz Music Institute is committed to the education, preservation, and performance of Latinx music. DMI creates opportunities through music education for all children, especially at-risk Latinx and children of color of any income, with the potential to develop leadership skills and a professional career in the music industry. DMI programs high-quality after-school and summer workshops at little or no cost to help enrich the cultural lives of Houston’s severely economically distressed areas. Creating accessibility and opportunities for the Houston area youth to develop music skills, music business, and entrepreneurship skills within a nurturing environment is paramount for our organization.
