Founded in 2001 by Janie Yao, Dance of Asian America (DAA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Asian dance and culture. With a company of 50 dancers, DAA reaches over 50,000 people annually through educational programs, community outreach performances, professional training, and free public events. DAA dancers consistently win top awards in competitions like Showstoppers, Starbound, and Dance Showcase USA. In 2013, DAA made it to the Quarter Finals of America’s Got Talent at Radio City Music Hall.
Dance of Asian America’s goal is to promote and preserve the rich cultural heritage of China through authentic Chinese dance. In doing so, DAA sustains traditions, builds international ties, educates Houstonians in cross-cultural understanding, and fosters new generations of professional artists.
